Disaster Relief: Aswan humanitarian crisis – January 2010 On 18th of January 2010, floods hit several cities and governorates in across Egypt, leaving hundreds of families homeless; particularly in Aswan (city of Aswan is located at the southern area of Egypt on the river Nile). Vodafone Egypt has instantly initiated a disaster relief initiative led by the Corporate Social Responsibility team to support the families impacted by the floods through this crisis. On Thursday 21st of January, the CSR team traveled to the villages impacted by the floods in Aswan with 6 of our active volunteers to provide families with basic food necessities, blankets, clothing Vodafone SIMs & handsets. In addition, they provided the families with cement packs to assist in the reconstruction of their homes. In addition to immediate disaster relief, CSR will provide financial support to local NGOs that are supporting the displaced families and helping them rebuild their homes.
